7 books every entrepreneur should read
Before diving into entrepreneurship books, which have become a sector in itself, let's discuss the habit of reading such books.
First of all, it should be underlined that reading these books won't make you an entrepreneur. Action is the main factor that puts an ordinary person in the category of entrepreneur. In other words, it is to get up, go out and put into practice what you've read.
The same is true for personal development books; reading similar recommendations in different words 5 times in a row does not improve us.
Therefore, it is as important as what books you read, when you read and what method you follow while reading. My advice is;
Before starting a new venture, read up to 10 books suggested here or that you have chosen (especially on topics that you are weak), one after the other, and take notes in a notebook. Let that notebook be your guide, check it out from time to time. And now, quit the books and take action.
What about audiobooks?
I'll never forget that tweet:
Listening to books instead of reading them is like drinking your vegetables instead of eating them.
They are the same in theory, but not in practice – when we take the shortcut, there is always a loss of vitamins, a decrease in nutritional value of the content. Moreover, if you're going to take notes as I mentioned above, which you should definitely do, audiobooks actually make your job harder rather than easier.
On the other hand, there are some cases where audiobook is a great practice, like number 7 on our list. If the book in question consists of brief, pill-advices rather than specific lessons/long descriptions, then the audio version is the ideal choice – especially for listening with headphones when you go for a walk.
Let's get to the list
- The 48 Laws of Power / Robert Greene – An epic compilation of the most basic and brutal truths you will never like. But you have to apply a certain moral filter to each item, otherwise you might hate the person you will become.
- Ego Is the Enemy / Ryan Holiday – Ego deserves to be the subject of an article on its own. The biggest obstacle on the way to success for most of us; and the worst enemy when we get there. If your thoughts are more about yourself than others, this book should be your number one.
- How to Win Friends & Influence People / Dale Carnegie – One of the key rules for elevating both yourself and your company is to build the right relationships with the right people. Carnegie wrote this book in 1936, and it's incredible that its content is still so relevant.
- Rich Dad Poor Dad / Robert Kiyosaki – A classic that will radically change the way you view the concept of 'making money'. I hope it's not too late when you realize how what we've been taught by our parents and in school has actually become a hindrance on the path to financial freedom.
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People / Stephen Covey – We always focus on how much we produce, often overlooking our production capacity. Covey maps out how to maximize productivity by increasing quantity and quality at the same time.
- The 1-Page Marketing Plan / Allan Dib – There are many excellent books on marketing and most of them carry the same message, but this is the most concise one among the ones I've read. It will significantly reduce your advertising costs and increase your marketing efficiency.
- The Daily Stoic / Ryan Holiday – The subtitle sums it up: "366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living". Listen to the audiobook over and over again until each one is etched into your subconscious.
